Group Exercise Class Descriptions
This class does it all! Cardio intervals of cycling plus plyometrics, strength training and core exercises help you to get fit FAST!
This hour does it all…Intervals of cardio, strength and abdominal training provide a full body workout. Get ready to get into great shape!
AIM (Age in Motion) Functional Training:
A full-body strength workout which uses a variety of resistance tools. The focus is on improving your body awareness, alignment, and strength using the disciplines of yoga, Pilates and a variety of resistance tools. The goal is to help you accomplish day-to-day activities with more strength and flexibility.
AIM (Age in Motion) Range of Movement:
This class is designed to improve your overall fitness. We will move in ways that increase strength, range of movement, agility, balance and coordination.
TBC (Total Body Conditioning):
Tone and condition the whole body in this class through the use of weights, bars, resistance bands and the step. We will push ourselves out of our “comfort” zone to see true body-sculpting results. All fitness levels welcome- modifications and enhancements will be shown.
This class is designed to increase speed, agility, endurance, and muscle strength using basic military, plyometric, and sport-specific movements. Be all that you can be!
Step & Strength:
Enjoy explosive step movements along with fun music and creative choreography. This cardio class includes body conditioning that utilizes weights, bands, the ball and more!
ZUMBA is a Latin dance inspired workout that is taking the world by storm! This is a great cardio workout that can be adapted to all levels. No dance skills required! Class Preview
Group Power® is Your Hour of Power! Blast all your muscles with this high-rep weight training workout. Barre is the latest fitness craze sweeping the nation, and now you’ve got it right here at Columbia Athletic Club! Barre combines Ballet, Pilates and Yoga to give you an amazing 45- minute workout that will sculpt your legs, butt and core, scorch calories, and leave you feeling lean and elongated. You don’t need to be a dancer to participate. We take inspiration from dance and ballet, melding these with fitness moves gleaned from Pilates as well as the grace and wisdom of Yoga. You will experience a well-rounded workout that incorporates isometric holds to build strength, as well as small range of motion moves to get deep into your musculature, resulting in a sleek, sculpted look. We use some dynamic, low impact movement to increase your cardio and add excitement. You’ll also experience some deep stretching for recovery and to keep your body long and lean. Great as a stand-alone or even better when combined with one of our other great classes, join us for Barre and you’ll notice a difference in your posture and your posterior!
Mind Body Class Descriptions:

Intro to Yoga & Meditation:
A wonderful class for the beginner. Learn basic poses, postures, and balances along with proper form and alignment. Class closes with meditation.
This class has a strong focus on breathing, alignment and flexibility. Class ends with meditation..
Power Vinyasa Yoga:
A dynamic, flowing class taught in the style of Baron Baptiste.
This class is available in a 60 or 90 minute format. Each class includes breathing exercises and hatha yoga postures designed to work every muscle, organ, joint, gland, tendon, ligament and cell in the body. An excellent full-body workout done in a heated environment.
This class offers the foundation poses of Yoga with a focus on breathing and proper alignment. We will flow through the poses using our breath. This class offers a great opportunity to work on flexibility and endurance. The pace of the class willl vary- sometimes energetic, sometimes slower- depending on the participants.
Condition the deeper, supporting muscles of the body to improve posture, balance, strength and coordination.
This is a great class for you if you have been to the intro yoga classes. It is also appropriate if it has been a while since you have been to a yoga class. The focus of this class is to help your body move and flow through the asanas (poses) with fresh awareness and ease. Time will often be spent gong deeper into a particular pose. This class is for all levels.
Hot Power Yoga:
This is a vigorous, fitness-based approach to Vinyasa-Style yoga with an emphasis on strength and flexibility. Adding the element of heat creates a wider range of motion while also challenging the cardiovascular system to burn approximately 350-600 calories per class.
The name says it all. This class takes a gentler approach to yoga practice. Learn modifications, as necessary, to help you most effectively work on flexibility, balance and strength. Available at Silver Lake.
Ancient Chinese exercises that help reduce stress, increase stamina and improve coordination.
Yin Yoga: Yin Yoga is a style of yoga that focuses on the connective tissues. With continued practice yin yoga can help increase flexibility.
